Kevin had an early appointment with the oncologist, Dr. Reed early this morning; and the Medical Oncologist, Dr. Nabi around noon. It’s a relief to see they don’t play around! I went with as note taker, and to deal with the financial stuff. Kevin is a much better patient than I would be, and the staff love him. (Who doesn’t?). The Hall-Perrine Cancer Center got right to business, are extremely efficient, and told us what to do.
The good news is that his lymph nodes didn’t appear to be swollen by touch (bro & sister-in-law Tim & Jess thought the same thing), however he will need to do the PET scan to see if it has spread anywhere else. The results of the PET scan will determine stage and treatment.
Kevin will need to have surgery to remove the spot, plus an additional 2 cm around it. The doc said it will not be a circle, but more of an oval shape for better closure. Kevin will require a skin graft for that area. We don’t have a date for the surgery yet.
There was a snafu with the health insurance this afternoon as well. I opted for COBRA, and my former employer told me we had no health insurance, but I think we got that worked out, thanks to a sweet lady named Sharon who went the extra mile and got everything straightened out. Affording COBRA will be another issue, so we will likely need to have a fundraiser to help defray costs.
We’re so grateful for everyone’s support, help and prayers!
